1. General information
The objective of this subject is that the student learns to work with the fundamental tools of contrastive analysis in its different linguistic, discursive, strategic and sociocultural levels in order to analyse, from a theoretical and practical approach, the problems that arise in the process of translating literary and audiovisual texts from English into Spanish. . ( It is recommended to have a C1 level of English and Spanish and to have their own laptop in the classroom).
These approaches and objectives are aligned with Sustainable Development Goals 4, 5, 10, 16 and 17 (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2030 (https://www.un.org/sustainable development/es/ ), so that the acquisition of the learning results of the subject provides training and competence to contribute to their achievement.
2. Learning results

Apply the methodological principles that govern translation processes in the English-Spanish language pair.

Use basic electronic programs and resources in translation practice.

Quickly and efficiently obtain contextual knowledge in both the source and target languages
(facts, terminology, generic conventions) necessary to produce a professional level translation.

4. Academic activities
a. Participative master classes
Introduction to the different literary and audiovisual genres. Commentary of translated texts.
b. Practical activities
Carrying out didactic activities oriented towards the development of the competences specific to the field of translation
c. Individual and group tutoring
Advice and supervision in the implementation of literary and audiovisual translation learning activities
d. Self-learning
Personal and autonomous study.

Use of bibliographic and computer tools, participation in the virtual learning environment

5. Assessment system
First call
It will consist of a global evaluation test comprising the following parts
Part 1. Translation of literary texts (50% of the grade, minimum 5 out of 10)
Test 1. With the help of dictionaries and reference material, a translation of a literary text in English into Spanish . (35% of the grade, minimum 5 out of 10).
Test 2. Learning portfolio, joint delivery of the work done in the subject (15 % of the grade, minimum 5 out of 10).
Part 2. Translation of audiovisual texts (50% of the grade, minimum 5 out of 10)
Test 3. Commentary or analysis of the translation of an audiovisual text in the dubbing mode (25 %)
Test 4. Translation for subtitling of an audiovisual text (25 %).
Assessment criteria are as follows:
The adequacy and equivalence of the translated texts to their originals, from a semantic, pragmatic, stylistic and discursive point of view
The strategies used in the translation process and the justification of the solutions given to the difficulties encountered
Proper application of the theoretical knowledge acquired and the correct use of metalanguage.
